“[…] The bass booms continuously; six dancers trace highly complex movement patterns with their bodies – their precision is breathtaking – in the semi-darkened room. […] [H]ere dance seems direct and elemental, as the dancers’ bodies glow with sweat and show their highly aesthetic play of muscle-power. The Schauspielhaus venue becomes a disco and a catwalk: With its carefully measured movements, the 13-minute opening piece “Sara” calls to mind dance on a fashion-show runway. The audience screams with delight at the end of this outstanding performance at Tanztheater International.”

preview TEXT

Young Israeli dance company L-E-V return to Hanover in 2015 following their powerful festival debut last year. Led by the celebrated duo of choreographer/dancer Sharon Eyal and techno DJ Gai Behar, the company unites the seemingly disparate worlds of classical and contemporary movement vocabulary and blends them with catwalk glamour – all to a surging electronic soundtrack. L-E-V’s unique dance technique, demonstrated in both pieces by the company’s six outstanding dancers, continues to fascinate. The short piece “Sara” showcases the group as a pearl in an antique casket of jewels. The audience is invited to glance inside, but not for too long, or the magic will be broken. It is followed by the uncompromisingly physical “Killer Pig”: Here, with disarming immediacy, the company describes the unfolding fate of a vulnerable soul trapped in a tight corner.
