That was TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL 2016
This year’s big celebration of dance, TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL 2016, took place from 1 to 10 September in various venues across Hanover. At the end of another successful festival, we were happy to count an overall attendance of 94% capacity audiences.
The daily international guest performances thrilled the audiences, eliciting enthusiastic applause and leaving the artists highly satisfied. This year they came from Israel, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United States, Australia and Portugal. A total of ten productions was shown, including three world premieres and one German premiere.
The U.S. choreographer Kyle Abraham flew in from New York with his company Abraham in Motion; the company Soul City led by choreographer Didier Boutiana came all the way from La Réunion to give their festival debut. The well-loved dance companies making return appearances in Hanover in 2016 were Wang Ramirez (France/Germany), Mickaёl Phelippeau (France), L-E-V / Sharon Eyal & Gai Behar (Israel), Jan Martens (Belgium/Netherlands) and Ann Van den Broek – WArd/waRD (Belgium/Netherlands), the latter with a premiere for Germany. The three world premieres were contributed by the young choreographers participating in the fifth edition of the artists-in-residence programme “Think Big” 2016, Carla Jordão (Germany/Portugal), Edan Gorlicki (German/Netherlands/Israel) and Ashley Wright (Germany/Australia).
